These are probably the most common questions we get right now so here are the answers :P

The International Society is run by a group of volunteers (not staff) who run some fantastic events for international students. In general we have about 4 events a week, namely movie night on tuesdays; pub night on thursdays; coffee afternoon on fridays and weekend trips to some amazing places in Scotland on saturdays and sundays. Being a member also allows you not only to take part in these but to recieve discounts in shops like borders, nevisport, the primary…For £3 its a good deal!

There are many opportunities to sign up as a member. But the most regular one will be at the thursday pub nights in the primary (From the uni main building walk in the direction opposite of byres road. You will see the old brown Glasgow University Union building and take a right down gibson street, following the road down to St Silas Church. Its behind the church.) Pub nights start at 9pm, and memberships will normally be sold at a table with a laptop computer from 9.30-11pm

All the best!

David

2008 in Glasgow!!!

Posted to Information

I think probably three exclamation marks are the limit for most peoples eyes. But its way more exciting than three exclamation marks.

WELCOME to Glasgow if you’ve just arrived! It really is amazing that you’ve chosen to come here and in all probability you are going to have an amazing time. We’ve certainly been working hard to make that happen.

We are a group of student volunteers who are passionate about international students. We are the largest society on campus and organise 4 events per week for our members, which last year numbered over 1,200. We organise pub nights, movie nights, magazines, day trips, weekend trips, coffee afternoons, ceilidhs and oh, just, way more! Why not check out our stall at freshers week and consider signing up as a member? We have a 12 month program, discounts for big stores like borders and nevisport, and a track record of memory making.

Whats coming up in the next week or so? Glad you asked:

Sunday 14th - Salsa Night 8pm-late Queen Margaret Union upstairs
You don’t have to be able to salsa dance you can just sit and chat (very excited about meeting you all), but we will have a dj and we will have salsa dancing lessons :)

Friday 19th - World record ceilidh attempt 6.30pm

Don’t miss the festival, carnival atmosphere.Help us beat a world record and have a great time ‘ceilidh dancing’. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of a ceilidh, its very easy, everyone can do it and everyone enjoys it. This is all for charity so do consider bringing a donation! But tell all your friends, we want to try and get 1000 people or more !!! We won’t do this twice so please make it a date in your diary :)

We will have small, medium and large scale events in the week to follow.

Catch us at freshers week !!!!

PS Having a little bit of technical issues with the website, if you would like more information please do not hesitate to contact

Have a fantastic time!
God bless,
David

Here’s an idea: Let’s blow more life into our webpage, get your best ideas together, for the improvement of this space of ours!!

What polls or games or questions or pictures would you like to post or to see here, or amazing stories… or just a shout in the dark… what about the category: the weirdest thing in Glasgow…

shout it all out!

Most of all, keep that smile on, never put it away, or at least not for a long while!! No matter how early it gets dark, or how soon the exams are, iSoc is your warm and cosy place where it’s always light and fun!!!
